Rivian, Subaru, Jeep, Porsche and Others Go Big at LA Auto Show | #353

While international auto shows start to wane, what is perhaps the most important exhibition in the largest automotive market in the world continues to stand strong. The Los Angeles Auto Show brought us many tasty morsels to digest as we wait for the ambitious unveilings to transform into reality. One of the juiciest bits was the unveiling of Rivian, and Automotive Journalist, Basem Wasef, says it was the big standout of the show for him. Also, Basem shares how world culture has given him a unique automotive perspective, and fills us in on his new book, “Speed Read Supercar”. Then, Director of Corporate Communications for Rivian, Michael McHale, reveals where the company came from and gives us the details on the R1T and R1S, their all-electric truck and SUV offerings which were shown off to the world for the first time at the LA Auto Show. Next up, Kelley Blue Book’s Karl Brauer remains skeptical as to whether or not anything will come of Rivian – he’s seen and heard it all before. What really impressed Karl was the new Gladiator, Jeep’s first truck! Shifting gears, President and CEO of Subaru North America, Tom Doll, is excited to discuss the new Crosstrek Hybrid, next generation Outback and Legacy, the 7 to 8-seater Ascent, and record month-to-month sales. Monterey Car Week from Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2018 | #342

Monterey Car Week was in full swing last weekend, and Alan sat down with some of the best guys the car hobby has to offer at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. First off, Justice Brothers, Inc. President and CEO, Ed Justice, Jr., was blown away by the auction of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for an astounding $48.5 million, awe inspiring historic races, an unrestored IndyCar from the 60s, and a rare 1970 Ferrari 512S Modulo Pininfarina Coupe. Monterey Car Week truly is a window into the automotive past. Next, Ken Eberts, President and Co-Founder of the Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS), shares his journey from New York City’s High School of Music and Art to co-founding AFAS. With a mission to legitimize and promote the work of its members, and build a fellowship among automotive fine artists and enthusiasts, AFAS has been attending Pebble Beach Concours since 1986. Then, Barrett-Jackson Auction Company Chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson, fills us in on new projects he has in the works, including two of the three-car limited run of 1967 Shelby GT500s, Little Red and the Green Hornet. Craig is making use of crowdsourced photos, information, and parts to help restore these beauties to their original glory. Also, we get a snapshot of upcoming Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2018 where a very special 2015 Shelby GT350 will be auctioned off to benefit the Driven Hearts Charity Initiative. Switching lanes, Wade Kawasaki and Corky Coker of Coker Tire Group, Chasing Classic Cars Host, Wayne Carini, and Meguiar’s President, Barry Meguiar, discuss all things Pebble Beach, Coker Tire Group, Chasing Classic Cars, SEMA, Car Crazy, and mustache related. Wayne Carini has three classic cars on the green at Pebble Beach: a 1954 Studebaker, Osca MT4 TN, and a Bugatti Type 57SC. Wayne isn’t worried about winning any awards, showcasing his cars at Pebble Beach is a win of its own. As Wayne Carini, Corky Coker, and Wade Kawasaki depart, Barry Meguiar is left in the middle of an Alan Taylor sandwich! Classic Car Restorer Alan Taylor’s reputation as one of the best car restorers in the hobby precedes him, and he gives us the details on his 1949 Delahaye Gilroy bodied Cabriolet he is showing at Pebble Beach. Alan shares the story of a Bugatti he had on the lawn at Pebble Beach a few years ago whose legitimacy came into question. Then, Kelley Blue Book’s Karl Brauer shares his highlights from Monterey Car Week, from a stunning 1937 Cadillac Series 90 Hartmann Cabriolet to the premier of the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition at the Laguna Seca race track. We catch up with Barry Meguiar to close out our 25th show from Pebble Beach, as he fills us in on the brand new Preservation Award. Are you ready to have your senses teased by the latest automotive news? We begin the show with Karl Brauer, Executive Publisher of Kelley Blue Book, who just attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed. He gushes about this amazing event that takes place on the estate an English Royal and explains that it was an opportunity for manufacturers to show off their newest designs as well as vintage models. He excitedly sounds off about his opportunity to drive a McLaren 570S Spider and be driven in a McLaren Senna by Bruce Senna up the hill climb at the event. Karl then tells us that he is about to attend an event for the 2018 Mustang Bullitt and for the pure electric Audi e-tron® that they will be racing up Pikes Peak. Changing gears, automotive journalist, BJ Killeen, reviews the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Eco which comes with an MSRP of $22,000. This great little car achieves 28-mpg in the city and 37-mph on the highway – talk about efficiency! Then Alan shares his review of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and tells us that this car is almost as amazing to drive as his Demon. It has a V8 supercharged Hemi, a widebody 26Z package, and had an MSRP of $77,770. Next up, Steven Cole Smith raves about his love for the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat and tells us that he can’t help but drive around to show it off when he has one. He then talks about the answer to the question that no one is asking – autonomous racing. He doesn’t understand why they are trying to take the human element out of the equation, which is what keeps the races interesting. He also discusses Chevrolet’s lack of success in NASCAR this year and presumes that it is because of the Camaro body they are using. Lastly, we are joined by Chris Duke, Host of Motorz TV, who reviews the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse and explains why it is well worth the price. Mark Reuss’ Crash, FCA’s Five Year Plan, and Best Fuel Sippers | #335

It’s time to talk cars and we catch up with some of our favorites from the automotive industry. We begin the show with automotive journalist, BJ Killeen, who explains Mark Reuss’ recent crash in a Pace car at the Detroit Grand Prix. The Executive Vice President of Global Product Development wrecked a $120,000 2019 Corvette ZR1 when he lost control around a tight left-hand turn. He didn’t suffer any major injuries but we are sure this is something that will go down in automotive history. Shifting gears, Hollywood car consultant, Josh Hancock of JoshCAR, is back and brings us the latest from the star-studded automotive scene. He recently helped NBC bring in a display of Ferraris for the Magnum P.I. reboot upfronts, including the original 1982 Ferrari 308 GTS and a 2018 Ferrari 488. Josh raves about how fun it was to drive the 2018 and shares that many people were taking their picture with these iconic cars at the display. He also tells us that FCA has released their five year plan and they have basically said that they’re discontinuing Chrysler cars. It will be interesting to see what the future will be for FCA’s other brands. Alan and Josh then get into a fun debate about the latest pony car wars and decide which ones are their favorites. Next, Autotrader’s Executive Editor, Brian Moody, shares their list of “12 Fuel Sippers to Fight Rising Gas Prices” for 2018. The Chevy Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Kona are just a few on the list of cars that could save you some dollars on fuel. Brian talks about some rare rides that are for sale on Autotrader and ponders how much some of these are actually worth. Brian then lists Autotrader’s best certified pre-owned vehicle manufacturers which include Lexus and Porsche. He and Alan also review the 2019 Subaru Ascent which can seat up to eight people and still has all the great Subaru characteristics. Then, we chat with the ever wild Dennis Collins who updates us on the latest happenings at Collins Bros Jeep. Every Friday morning, he does a Coffee Walk where viewers can follow him around the shop and see the projects they’re putting their hard work into. He also raves about an up-fit they just did to his Jeep Trackhawk that took it up to about 805-HP.
