Craftsman Launch, Fisker Inc., Motorz Project, and Monterey Car Week | #341

THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | #341

Monterey Car Week is fast approaching and promises to bring us the sexiest, classiest, hottest cars of the year in a slew of amazing events. First, Hollywood Car Consultant, Josh Hancock of JoshCAR, is working on the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Allegedly, production crews shut down seven blocks of Hollywood Boulevard for five days for a practical effect film shoot for the movie. Josh reveals his favorite part of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – the classics! Also, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is an impressive, relatively inexpensive luxury SUV, but Josh thinks most of what is found in this machine could be accomplished in a sedan. Then, Motorz TV host, Chris Duke, shares his experiences at the Craftsman Launch event, including finally meeting Chip Foose, racing go-karts against Ryan Preece, Erik Jones, Richie Crampton, and Wayne Carini. Switching gears, Chris Duke lets us know about his new project for Motorz TV – a Chevrolet C10. Next, Fisker Inc. Chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker, divulges what he can about the projects he’s working on. While most details are still under wraps, we glean details about the new all-electric shuttle, Fisker’s new high-volume, affordable electric vehicle, and partnerships he has in the works. To close the show, Kelley Blue Book’s Executive Publisher, Karl Brauer, discusses what most excites him about Monterey Car Week, including Ford’s announcement of their next heritage model and $40-50+ million Ferrari 250 GTO. Changing lanes, Karl Brauer explains how Kelley Blue Book can provide such accurate values on cars of all makes and models using data that they pull from public auction results, dealer auctions, dealer-to-individual sales, and the information provided to them by Cox Automotive Group. Karl also got to drive the 2018 McLaren 720S and was blown away by how well they were able to balance performance with comfort – no car can do both as well as the McLaren 720S. Are you ready for Monterey Car Week?

Goodwood Festival of Speed, Hyundai Sonata Eco, and Chevy Traverse | #339

THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | #339

Are you ready to have your senses teased by the latest automotive news? We begin the show with Karl Brauer, Executive Publisher of Kelley Blue Book, who just attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed. He gushes about this amazing event that takes place on the estate an English Royal and explains that it was an opportunity for manufacturers to show off their newest designs as well as vintage models. He excitedly sounds off about his opportunity to drive a McLaren 570S Spider and be driven in a McLaren Senna by Bruce Senna up the hill climb at the event. Karl then tells us that he is about to attend an event for the 2018 Mustang Bullitt and for the pure electric Audi e-tron® that they will be racing up Pikes Peak. Changing gears, automotive journalist, BJ Killeen, reviews the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Eco which comes with an MSRP of $22,000. This great little car achieves 28-mpg in the city and 37-mph on the highway – talk about efficiency! Then Alan shares his review of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and tells us that this car is almost as amazing to drive as his Demon. It has a V8 supercharged Hemi, a widebody 26Z package, and had an MSRP of $77,770. Next up, Steven Cole Smith raves about his love for the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat and tells us that he can’t help but drive around to show it off when he has one. He then talks about the answer to the question that no one is asking – autonomous racing. He doesn’t understand why they are trying to take the human element out of the equation, which is what keeps the races interesting. He also discusses Chevrolet’s lack of success in NASCAR this year and presumes that it is because of the Camaro body they are using. Lastly, we are joined by Chris Duke, Host of Motorz TV, who reviews the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse and explains why it is well worth the price. He also riles us up about the Craftsman Re-launch coming up in August, which will feature celebrity guests such as Alan Taylor, Richard Rawlings, Chip Foose, and Wayne Carini. This episode is packed full of automotive goodness you don’t want to miss!

Volvo’s New Factory, Affordable Cars to Insure, and Mitsubishi Mirage GT | #338

THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | #338

Whether you’re looking for an affordable car, a car show to attend or the latest auto reviews – we’ve got it all. Executive editor of Autotrader, Brian Moody, joins us to talk about the new Volvo factory in Charleston, South Carolina. He explains that after all the work Volvo is doing to make safer, more reliable vehicles, it is pretty neat that they’re basically building the car of the future right here in the United States. Changing lanes, Brian reviews the 2018 Mazda CX 9 which is so refined that you may be fooled into thinking it’s a luxury car. While it may be missing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it is definitely a head turner and fits in nicely at the fancy hotel Brian stayed at on a recent trip. Before Brian jumps off the air, he tells us about Autotrader’s list of the “Top 10 Most Affordable Vehicles to Insure in 2018”. The Honda CRV, Ford Fiesta, Honda Pilot, Mazda 3, Toyota Sienna, and the MINI Countryman are just a few of the great cars on the list. Next, Hollywood car consultant, Josh Hancock, sounds off about his surprising test drive of the Mitsubishi Mirage. While the car is extremely small, it was a great car to zoom around the narrow, busy roads he was on. After that, he gives us an update on the Iola Old Car Show that is taking place in Iola, Wisconsin. This show will be movie car themed and even has Henry Winkler as one of the judges, so Josh is excited. Lastly, we end the show with a great Craftsman story from Josh and he raves about the excitement of getting a new set of tools from them. Tune in now for some great auto news and a whole bunch of laughs!
