THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | Episode #362

If there’s one thing that the Swiss people are known for, it’s having a lot of money! Which is why it is fitting that the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) would showcase some of the wackiest, most outlandish, and of course, ridiculously expensive concept cars on the planet. Reporting from Geneva, Switzerland, so we don’t have to, Autotrader Executive Editor, Brian Moody, fills us in on some of the craziest concept cars he’s witnessed. It isn’t all highfalutin dream-cars in Geneva; the Mazda CX-30, Subaru e-Boxer engine, and Honda e Prototype have much more grounded philosophies in mind. Changing gears, Executive Publisher for Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book, Dealer.com, Karl Brauer, gives us his drive review of his new Ford GT (finally!), and discusses electric vehicles and the effects of trade tariffs on the automotive industry. Next, Co-founder of  CarTender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, U.S. News and World Report, George Kennedy III, makes a case for electric cars and showers praise upon the 2019 Dodge Charger SXT AWD. Closing the show, automotive journalist, BJ Killeen, offers her opinion about some of the strange (and amazing) designs at the Geneva Motor Show. While the Hispano Suiza Carmen and Engler F.F. Super Quad may be goofier looking than Donald Duck’s best buddy, cars like the Bugatti La Voiture Noire and Kia Imagine are inspired and beautiful.

THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | Episode #345

Autotrader Executive Editor, Brian Moody, brings us the latest advice and reviews from the site to keep us in the automotive loop, on this episode of The DRIVE with Alan Taylor. First off, Alan reflects on his stellar experience with the rideshare services Lyft and Uber while in New York City. Then, we discuss Autotrader’s 10 Great Hybrids and EVs for 2018, from the Chevrolet Bolt to the Chrysler Pacifica. While electric vehicles are making much-needed progress in range, nothing beats the flexibility of a hybrid car’s ability to transition between battery and gas power. Also, Brian and Alan remind us to beware of flood damaged cars in light of the recent east coast Hurricane Florence disaster. Remember, just because these cars were damaged on the east coast, doesn’t mean you won’t find them popping up in dealerships on the west coast or anywhere in between. Next, we compare 7 Outstanding Vehicles for Tailgating and some of our selections might surprise you, but the 2019 GMC Sierra was almost a foregone conclusion. Shifting gears, Alan lets us know what events we can expect to see him at, like Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2018, the 2018 SEMA ShowCES 2019, and Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2019. We wrap up the show with Alan’s thoughts on the power of the 2019 Infinti QX50 Essential FWD. Keep up with The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions at Barrett-Jackson.com.

THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | #342

Monterey Car Week was in full swing last weekend, and Alan sat down with some of the best guys the car hobby has to offer at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. First off, Justice Brothers, Inc. President and CEO, Ed Justice, Jr., was blown away by the auction of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for an astounding $48.5 million, awe inspiring historic races, an unrestored IndyCar from the 60s, and a rare 1970 Ferrari 512S Modulo Pininfarina Coupe. Monterey Car Week truly is a window into the automotive past. Next, Ken Eberts, President and Co-Founder of the Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS), shares his journey from New York City’s High School of Music and Art to co-founding AFAS. With a mission to legitimize and promote the work of its members, and build a fellowship among automotive fine artists and enthusiasts, AFAS has been attending Pebble Beach Concours since 1986. Then, Barrett-Jackson Auction Company Chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson, fills us in on new projects he has in the works, including two of the three-car limited run of 1967 Shelby GT500s, Little Red and the Green Hornet. Craig is making use of crowdsourced photos, information, and parts to help restore these beauties to their original glory. Also, we get a snapshot of upcoming Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas 2018 where a very special 2015 Shelby GT350 will be auctioned off to benefit the Driven Hearts Charity Initiative. Changing gears, ACURA Executive Creative Director for Honda R&D Americas, Inc., Dave Marek, mentions his new podcast, Man Seeks Adventure, and and how he’s drawing inspiration for a designer like Dave Marek is in abundance at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Switching lanes, Wade Kawasaki and Corky Coker of Coker Tire Group, Chasing Classic Cars Host, Wayne Carini, and Meguiar’s President, Barry Meguiar, discuss all things Pebble Beach, Coker Tire Group, Chasing Classic Cars, SEMA, Car Crazy, and mustache related. Wayne Carini has three classic cars on the green at Pebble Beach: a 1954 Studebaker, Osca MT4 TN, and a Bugatti Type 57SC. Wayne isn’t worried about winning any awards, showcasing his cars at Pebble Beach is a win of its own. As Wayne Carini, Corky Coker, and Wade Kawasaki depart, Barry Meguiar is left in the middle of an Alan Taylor sandwich! Classic Car Restorer Alan Taylor’s reputation as one of the best car restorers in the hobby precedes him, and he gives us the details on his 1949 Delahaye Gilroy bodied Cabriolet he is showing at Pebble Beach. Alan shares the story of a Bugatti he had on the lawn at Pebble Beach a few years ago whose legitimacy came into question. Then, Kelley Blue Book’s Karl Brauer shares his highlights from Monterey Car Week, from a stunning 1937 Cadillac Series 90 Hartmann Cabriolet to the premier of the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition at the Laguna Seca race track. THE DRIVE with Alan Taylor | #333

In a world with endless options, how is it possible for us to choose just one car? Well, thankful there are companies out there that are trying to make these tough decisions easy. We begin the hour with Chief Strategy Officer for AMCI Global, who details their 2018 Trusted Automotive Brand Study. Headroom, connectivity, comfort, and even five trim levels have made the Veloster better than it has ever been. Then, we talk with Alan about the 2018 F-Type 400 Sport AWD Coupe that he just drove. The design, body style, and flavor of the car is beautiful and the V6 supercharge engine makes it a snappy little car.
